Sixteen Candles

Cait, I promise I didn’t freaking forget your birthday. {If you don’t get the reference, you don’t get to turn 16}

Caitlin Abigail Neill, 16 years ago today you entered my life and I cannot thank you enough for being my little sister. I know you didn’t really have a choice in the matter, and I know I tried to return you and replace you with a puppy, and I am still disappointed that you aren’t named Kelly, but seriously, I don’t know how you have put up with me for this long.

I am still shook that you are old enough to drive a car and I probably won’t ride with you for a long time, but just know that I am extremely proud of the beautiful, confident young lady that you have become. Kathleen, you are the definition of pure joy. You live your life with a brightness that is contagious to those around you. Your confidence and moxie inspire me daily. You are so much cooler at 16 than I will ever be at 19. You are spunky and bold, two things that I know I will never be.

Thank you for bringing so much laughter into my life, without you I would probably be a lot more boring than I already am. Thank you for agreeing to be my business partner and letting me believe that I am in charge (we all know you run the show). Thank you for inspiring me to take risks and for reminding me to not let other people’s opinions get in the way of my happiness.

I know I always tell people that you are my biological best friend (I have literally spent the last week bragging about you to PNMs), but today I truly understand what that means. I cannot imagine my life without you in it. I know that sometimes we may not always get along and I may not always be the best role model, but you are truly the best little sister a girl could ask for. I never needed a big sister to look up to because I always had you to help guide me through life.

I know by now you are probably crying, don’t worrying I was crying the entire time I wrote this. I am so sorry that I am not by your side for this national holiday, but I promise I will make it up to you next weekend: TX-OU and Taylor Swift aren’t going to know what hit them.

Sending lots of love from Oxford, Mississippi. xoxo Con
