The 28th state in the Union, but the #1 state in my heart!
When I say I love Texas, I mean I am borderline obsessed. The first thing I will tell you when I meet you is that I am Texan. I have shirts, socks, sweatshirts, shorts, even a fanny pack, with the state flag on them. I have even been to the birthplace of the Texas flag (Montgomery, TX for those who are curious). My graduation announcements almost had everyone’s favorite Davy Crockett quote on them. I have cheered under some Friday night lights while wearing cowboy boots. I wear a state of Texas ring on my ring finger; if anyone is wondering, yes, I am engaged to the Lone Star State. My love for my state is bigger than the state itself.
While I definitely miss living inside those beautiful state lines, it is fun to go to school out of state. I know I’m not the only Texan on this Mississippi campus, but I like to think of myself as a sort of Texas ambassador: I advocate for Tex-Mex and real BBQ, I remind people about the Alamo daily, and I just generally promote the idea that Texas is the greatest state of all time.
I have loved where I lived for as long as I can remember, but 18 years is certainly not enough time to experience all my lovely state has to offer. Here is my Texas Bucket List:
- El Paso, Big Bend, McDonald Observatory (basically all of West Texas)
- Prada Marfa
- Golfing in Utopia
- Driving from San Antonio to Amarillo by morning
- Cadillac Ranch
- Bush Presidential Libraries (both of them)
- Coopers in Llano
- Floating down the river in San Marcos
- Top Notch Burgers
- Lubbock (Shelby this one is for you 🙂 )
- Enchanted Rock
- Texas State Fair (paired with the Red River Rivalry of course)
- Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo
- Spring break in South Padre
Texas is 268,581 square miles of pure perfection and I hope to spend the rest of my life falling in love with my beautiful state. See you soon, my love!
I ❤️ Brenham, TX
